Top 5 things to do in M'Pai Bay

Updated: Mar 19, 2022

If you're not someone who enjoys simply lounging on the beach when you come to an island, then M'Pai Bay might just be the right place for you. As a working fishing community, M'Pai Bay can offer you all the sights and sounds of a typical Khmer village with the lush backdrop of oceans and jungles for you to choose from. Here are our top 5 recommendations for things to do on your next visit.

Go diving

Of all the Cambodian islands that people choose to visit, M'Pai Bay has some of the best dive sites around. There's plenty of great reefs nearby, which means you don't have to be on a boat for hours to get to the good stuff. It's all right here! We have a great dive center in the village who can take care of you from your very first Discover Scuba Dive all the way through to your Divemaster and Instructor certifications with PADI. Contact Bubbles Up Dive Center for more information.

Hike the jungle trails

Being the island that we are, there is more to M'Pai Bay than just the beach. Our little village is home to a couple of great walking trails that can take you anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours. There's nothing better than getting your boots on a taking yourself for an adventure through the jungle to experience the sights and sounds of nature. For those who are a not quite up to going alone, contact Adventure Travel Co. for affordable guided jungle walks in M'Pai Bay.

Visit the rock pools

One of the great features of our village existing right on the edge of the jungle, is the access we have to natural water sources. There is a fairly easy walk you can do that will take you to the nearest rock pools or for those who are wanting something a little more special, taking part in the Waterfall Picnic group tour that happens every Tuesday (from June-October) can also be great fun too. If you wander along Long Beach you will find small jungle entrances where the fresh water meets the ocean and can be lovely and shady to cool off in as well.

Drop a line

Since you're already planning on visiting a fishing village, then taking a fishing trip can be a really fun way to experience a good time with the locals while you're here. You can find a small sampling of hand line type fishing gear from the small shops on the island, but if you really want to get serious about it, then you may want to stop in at one of the larger outdoor stores like Decathalon in Phnom Penh for some proper gear before making the trip down this way. Bun Thoen's Boat Tours offer a great half day fishing experience which will have you chatting away to your captain about life on the island in no time.

Get active at the beach

For some people, simply looking at the water just isn't enough and with the sheltered bay that we have, our waters are prime for non-motorised sports like kayaking and paddleboarding. Even if you're only spending a day in the village, hiring a kayak, a SUP or a snorkel to get out there and explore a little more is a great way to make the most of your time on the island. Adventure Travel Co. can arrange all of your rentals for you, including kayaks and snorkeling equipment.

These are just a few examples of great activities to participate in when you visit our little village paradise. There are a load of tours you can also partake in, from guided sunrise snorkeling to a 10km walking trail to longer boat trips to visit some of the more secluded beaches that make up the island of Koh Rong Samloem. We're here to help you plan your perfect beach holiday, so feel free to reach out to us to discuss all that you can do in a visit to M'Pai Bay.
